Solid Sate Drives (SSD) offer incredibly fast access to your stored data allowing for faster boot up / shut down times and application / data access. When SSD drives originally entered the market they typically had lower capacity and were much more expensive per GB. Recently, prices for SSD drives have dropped significantly to match higher storage needs. There are also hybrid drives that mix the speed of an SSD and the inexpensive cost of high capacity drives.
Protect against Malware.
Antivirus and AntiMalware software packages do a great job of protecting your systems from the vast majority of vulnerabilities on computer systems. However, all of the software packages that are built to protect you have the same two issues:
- They have to be reactive in nature and will allow you to make mistakes that appear to be real transitions. In their reactionary mode, they are not great at protecting against day 1 attacks and need time to develop their protection.
- They don’t have the ability to stop a user from clicking on a bad website or weblink that will install a malware application.
Losing critical information, pictures, music, etc. can be a very frustrating experience. Typically, users manually backup to a USB drive, which is helpful but is not done on a frequent basis and still leaves your data susceptible to theft, fire, or other losses. There are several products on the market that automate an off-site backup but our favorite is Carbonite because it is effortless. All you need to do is open an account, pay for the service, and install the application. Carbonite takes care of the rest and ensures your files, and changes to those files are protected.
